    The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra's second concert in the Spring Symphony Season is titled 'A Taste of Belgium'.

    The concert takes place on Thursday, 15 September at the Cape Town City Hall at 20:00 and is supported by the Delegation of Flanders in Southern Africa.

    Flemish conductor Rik Ghesquière and violinist Jolente De Maeyer will perform August De Boeck’s Violin Concerto with the CPO, who will also perform De Boeck’s Dahameene Rhapsody. The third work to be performed will be Symphony in D minor by César Franck, the Belgian-born composer.

    The Consulate General of Belgium in Cape Town and Flanders Southern Africa are organising a documentary screening of "Pride is Protest" in the presence of the Flemish director Marieke Dermul on 31 May in Cape Town. The event is organised in the framework of #idahot2022. After the screening, Dermul will engage with journalist Carl Collison and the audience, in a talk led by Khanyisile Phillips. RSVP by 29 May.

    On Wednesday 20 October (18.00 to 19.00), a live discussion will be held with directors Jan Verheyen and Lien Willaert, together with health and education activist Mark Heywood (editor, Daily Maverick, Citizen). They will discuss the film's topic: a family’s struggles against the pharmaceutical industry to gain access to medicine for their daughter.

    In the framework of the Week of the Dutch Language celebrations, the Consulate General of Belgium in Cape Town, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Cape Town and Flanders Southern Africa invite you to a drive-in movie in Tamboerskloof, Cape Town on 7 October at 17:30.

    The film that will be shown is "Vele Hemels", a Belgian/Dutch co-production, based on a book by Griet Op De Beeck, one of the most popular authors in the Low Countries. The movie will be in Dutch, with English subtitles.

    We are very excited to bring the Week van het Nederlands to South Africa for the very first time with a programme of different activities, organised by Embassy of Belgium in Pretoria, Kingdom of the Netherlands in South Africa, Consulate General of Belgium in Cape Town and the Delegation of Flanders, in cooperation with Sasnev, the SAVN and the Vrystaat Kunstefees. One of the events not to be missed is a literary conversation which takes place on Tuesday 5 October from 16.30-17.30. Nigerian author Chika Unigwe, who lived in Flanders for 18 years, and Dutch poet Alfred Schaffer, currently lecturing at the University of Stellenbosch, look at language and identity and the significance of the Dutch language in their works as author and poet respectively
