2.5 million euros for health sector in Mozambique

2.5 million euros for health sector in Mozambique

On June 18, the Government of Flanders approved a subsidy of 2.5 million euros for Prosaúde. Prosaúde is a financing instrument for healthcare in Mozambique. With the support of Prosaúde, the Government of Flanders wants to further support and strengthen health policy and the health sector in Mozambique.

Mozambique is one of the partner countries of Flanders’ development cooperation. The Country Strategy Note for Development Cooperation 2020-2025 between Flanders and Mozambique provides for an annual contribution of at least 2,000,000 euros per year to the Prosaude Fund. This amount was increased by 500,000 euros in 2021 to strengthen the fight against COVID-19 in Mozambique.

The Mozambican government and international donors jointly manage Prosaúde on the basis of annual planning cycles and control mechanisms. Prosaúde donors are Flanders, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Flanders takes up the presidency of Prosaúde in 2021, according to a rotation scheme.
