Flanders awards grants to SRHR projects in Tete, Mozambique

The Government of Flanders is awarding grants to two projects in Tete province in Mozambique. Both projects improve access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). They specifically target vulnerable groups and focus on mothers and newborns.

The International Centre For Reproductive Health Mozambique (ICRH-M) is a local NGO working with local partner organisations and with the Mozambican government to improve access to health care, with a special focus on people with disabilities, among others. The project also includes a research component in cooperation with Ghent University. The grant runs for four years and totals 1,500,000 Euro.

Doctors with Africa (CUAMM) is an international NGO that wants to use this project to address the challenges of climate change for sexual and reproductive rights and health services in Angonia and Mutarara districts and in Tete city. They will do so by supporting and expanding the service delivery of a number of health centres. The grant runs for 3 years and also amounts to 1,500,000 Euro.

Both projects were selected from a call in March 2022. The selection was done in close cooperation with the Mozambican government.

Mozambique is one of the three partner countries of Flemish development cooperation. There is intensive cooperation with the Ministry of Health to improve the health system. Flanders also supports projects of other partners that improve healthcare and the healthcare system.
