Grants for three agricultural projects in Malawi
Flanders Representative - South Africa 2608

Grants for three agricultural projects in Malawi

On 10 July, the Government of Flanders approved three grants for agricultural projects in Malawi. The grants, for a total value of more than 4 million euros, are for the continuation of three successful projects previously supported by Flanders.

In its cooperation with Malawi, Flanders focuses entirely on the agricultural sector. The population consists largely of small farmers. Poorly functioning or inaccessible markets, lack of product knowledge and climate change make it very difficult for these small farmers to make a living from their harvest.

The approved projects therefore focus on improving agricultural information to small farmers (farming techniques and crops knowledge but also market information) and on improving the functioning of information services, agricultural markets and cooperatives.

The projects are:

- Building Markets for Prosperity - Agricultural Commidity for Africa (ACE)
- Scaling up Radio and ICTs in Enhancing Extension Delivery Farm Radio Trust
- Enhancing the performance and inclusiveness of agricultural extension - International Food Policy Research Institute
