MP Jambon and Western Cape Government Premier Winde sign Letter of Intent

MP Jambon and Western Cape Government Premier Winde sign Letter of Intent

The Premier of the Western Cape Government of South Africa, Mr Alan Winde, was visiting Flanders for a few days as part of a wider European trip. On 27 September 2022, Minister-President Jan Jambon received the Premier at the Errera House. This was already the second meeting between them. Minister-President Jambon previously met Premier Winde during his mission to South Africa in April 2022.

Both heads of government exchanged views on the current energy crisis as well as the transfers of power and state reforms Flanders has gone through in its history. The conversation also probed possible collaborations between Flanders and the Western Cape Government.

Finally, Minister-President Jambon and Premier Winde signed a Letter of Intent in which both governments expressed their desire to further explore closer cooperation opportunities between Flanders and the Western Cape, and this in a multitude of fields: tourism, trade and investment, innovation, (renewable) energy, green and circular economy, climate mitigation and adaptation, tertiary education, and logistics and mobility, including port cooperation.

Premier Winde will also meet with representatives of FIT, VLAIO, VOKA and Tourism Flanders during his visit to Flanders and will visit the Port of Antwerp.
