Flanders agrees multi-year agreement with UNAIDS

On 2 December minister-president Jambon and vice-director of UNAIDS, Gunilla Carlsson signed the new partner agreement between Flanders and UNAIDS. The Government of Flanders will release 1.5 million euros over the next two years for the fight against HIV and AIDS.
UNAIDS vice-director Carlsson, was received by Minister-president Jambon in the Ererra House in Brussels. She expressed her gratitude for the loyal and long-term support of Flanders for UNAIDS.

“Flanders has been a valued and prominent partner since the founding of UNAIDS. Its leadership and strong commitment in the Global AIDS response especially in Southern Africa to meet the needs of vulnerable populations affected by HIV is critical to ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030."

The new partner agreement ensures UNAIDS of a Flemish contribution of 1.5 million euros for the coming years. The agreement also ensures Flemish priorities to be included in UNAIDS policy. Such as: a strong commitment to prevention, elimination of discrimination or exclusion of vulnerable groups such as the LGBTQI + communities and the protection of girls and young women in Southern Africa.
Therefore, the Government of Flanders strongly believes in the holistic approach of UNAIDS. Minister-president Jambon: “The fight against HIV and AIDS requires a human rights-based approach that involves not only the health sector but also all relevant sectors such as food, justice, education, and so on. AIDS is not only a medical but also a social problem. "
