On 11 July, Flanders celebrates the Day of the Flemish Community. To mark this occasion, we have invited Flemish and South African artists, chefs and academics to reflect on their cooperation. Over the next five days we bring you some of our most original and exciting cooperative projects. We hope that you will enjoy and feel inspired!
Day 1: Two Brothers from Another Sea brings together South African chef Kobus van der Merwe (Wolfgat) and Flemish chef Willem Hiele. Both share a vital and absolute connection to their land, the ocean and their produce.
Combining their creative talents, the two chefs forged a uniquely interactive experience of tastes, launched June 2019 in Koksijde, Flanders and culminating December 2019 in Paternoster, South Africa. The first leg of the project took place in Flanders thanks to Visit Flanders; the second leg in South Africa was supported by the General Representation of the Government of Flanders and Wesgro.
