In 2021, mathews + associates Architects undertook the renovation of the Delegation of Flanders in Pretoria into a contemporary and state-of-the-art diplomatic mission that blends techniques, materials, and design from Flanders and South Africa.

At the 2023 Gauteng Institute for Architecture Regional Awards, the renovation earned an Award of Commendation and was lauded for turning the office into "a showcase of Flemish and South African design sensibilities, thereby establishing Flanders in the heart of one of the world's diplomatic hubs". Last week, architect Pieter Mathews officially handed over this prestigious accolade to General Representative Dr. Geraldine Reymenants.
