OVAM shares circular economy policy in South Africa
The SA-EU Dialogue Facility strengthens strategic relations between South Africa and the European Union and its Member States on a broad range of key sectors and issues. In the framework of the partnership, a symposium on Circular Economy was organised in Pretoria on 19-20 November. International speakers from the EU, Finland, the Netherlands and Flanders presented at the symposium.
Angelique Genemans, Circular Economy Policy Advisor of the Public Waste Agency of Flanders (OVAM), participated in the conference, and presented on OVAM’s tools and instruments to strengthen and stimulate the circular economy in Flanders.
OVAM is responsible for waste management and soil remediation in Flanders, and is tasked with the preparation and implementation of waste management legislation. The agency is also heading a program called Vlaanderen Circulair (Circular Flanders). Circular Flanders is the hub and the inspiration for the Flemish circular economy. It is a partnership of governments, companies, civil society, and the knowledge community that will take action together. The three current focus areas are circular purchases, circular cities and circular businesses.
