The General Representation of the Government of Flanders in Southern Africa has signed a double taxation treaty with Botswana on 30 November.

Double taxation treaties are treaties in which states agree on how to coordinate collecting their taxes. The main objective is to ensure that the same tax matter is not charged twice.

In this case, it concerns the so-called ‘mixed treaties’. In addition to federal taxes, the current and possibly future taxes are also part of the scope of such a treaty. Examples include levying surcharges or tax deduction and tax abatements, that Flanders can allow.
