Flanders allocates funds to UNESCO Trust Fund
On 26 February, the Government of Flanders allocated another 900,000 euros to the 'Flanders UNESCO Trustfund' (FUT).
In 1998 the Government of Flanders has concluded a cooperation agreement with UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Within that framework FUT has been set up for supporting UNESCO-projects in line with Flemish priorities, with a focus on heritage since 2010. Over the years the Government of Flanders supported via FUT - amongst others - the successful development of the World Heritage Marine Programme, an improved management of natural World Heritage sites in Africa and the strengthening of cooperation and capacities in Southern African countries with regard to Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The fund and its projects were assessed by an external evaluation company in 2020. In view of the positive outcome of that evaluation, the Government of Flanders has now decided to continue the regular biennial subsidy.
